Windows explorer, one of the most essential components of
Windows 7,is used to manage file folders,and programs on your
computer.Introduced by Microsoft in Windows 95,Windows Explorer uses a
Graphical User Interface (GUI)to manage files and folders.A graphical user
interface is atype of user to interact with electronic devices with images and
icons .
In earlier days, the common operating systems were Character
User Interface (CUI) based and users needed to memorize a lot of commands to
manage files and folders .Using Windows Explorer ,users can now perform the
same takes by using the GUI.A GUI represents the information and actions
available to a user through graphical icons and visual indicators .
The actions are usually performed through direct
manipulation of the graphical elements.Over the past few years,Microsoft has
updated its operating system by lunching new versions ,such as Windows XP and
Windows Vista.Every new versions of the Windows operating system also includes
enhancements in Windows Explorer,such as integration of the control panel in
Windows 2000 and task-based sidebars in Windows XP .In Windows Vista,new
features were added to Windows
Explorer ,Such as details pane and enhancements
in the address bar. In windows 7,Microsoft has once again enhanced the Windows
Explorer component with a completely new set of tools and features to manage
files and folders as well as hard drives.
Windows Explorer in Windows 7 has many new features,such as
libraries, file list ,resizable search box,address bar and buttons to toggle
the preview pane.

Exploring the Windows Explorer Interface
Windows Explorer is a file manager application which
provides a graphical user interface for accessing the file systems .It is
sometimes refered to as the Windows Shell,Explorer.exe,or simply Explorer.Windows
Explorer is one of the defaults icons in the Windows 7 Taskbar icon to open the
Windows Explorer.You can also launch the Explorer by opening the start menu and
selecting All programs →Accessories→Windows Explorer.
Windows Explorer provides a graphical browing mode using which you
can browse each folder to view its content.With Windows Explorer ,You can
easily navigate to different locations or open the files and folders with just
amouse click.You can open the Windows Explorer window by clicking start
button.The start menu appears .Next ,click All programs from the start menu .A
list of programs appears.Now click Accessories folders and then click Windows
Explorer.

bar:Address are located on the top bar of the windows .It displays the
location of yourcomuter’s file and folder in windows explorer.
Search
box:The second box at of the explorer window is the search box.The
search box in windows explorer helps you to queek view the files and folders
present at different location on your computer.
Toolbar:The tool
bar in windows explorer controls the commands in the form of buttons used to
manage file and folder.
Navigation
pane:Windows explorer features a navigation pane on the left,with five
major section.favourites,Libraries,Home group,computer and network.
Details pane:
The
details pane to right of the navigation pane displays detail about a file such
as the file size ,file type the date on wich it was created.
Preview
pane:Explorer has a previe pane which is off by default.Click on a
document and click the show the preview pane”button at the right of the tool
bar.
